Providing simple and reusable authentication solutions that can exist across Internet or Intranet applications has long been a challenge. Giving a collection of users the ability to login to an application once and ensure their ability to move from one application to the next without continually being prompted, has traditionally been an evasive proposition.

We've released a custom authentication application providing a single sign-on service that is designed for integration with Intranet, Extranet or Internet applications. It serves as a single repository for user information and can easily be integrated with any existing applications for user and security management.

The authentication application is designed to sit outside an application, using a service oriented architecture to manage user requests to an application and ensure only authorized users are admitted. This is accomplished with an Authentication Server which is responsible for maintaining user accounts and validating authentication requests. It supports NTLM authentication or custom accounts comprised of a username and password. Client applications can specify what type of authentication they want to use.
